House for life!
Born and raised in San Diego, California, J.P. Richardson is considered a 'jack of all trades' in the House Music community. He began his journey as a fan in the 90's and although predominately influenced by the Funk, Soul, Jazz, Classical, 80's, R&B, Disco and Hip Hop movements; J.P. found House Music made it possible to incorporate the best of these genres into one.
Shortly after falling in love with the music, J.P. mixed his first record as a studious teen. Without a mentor, and not knowing where to get house records at the time, he began his collection by going to thrift stores and garage sales to find used vinyl records of many genres.
After years of critiquing the greatest House mixers in history, and honing his own skills, J.P. acquired his first club gig in 2004 at the Aubergine (now known as Fluxx), in San Diego's Downtown Gaslamp Quarter. Since then he's mixed recordings at venues where some of the finest DJ's in the world have been showcased. Some include Voyeur, WMC, Spin, Onyx, Thin, Red Circle, Sin, Stage, Red C, Candelas, Kava, Air Conditioned, Prospect, Bar Dynamite, and more.
2007 marks J.P.'s first year of producing House Music. Being an eager student of the art, he continues to build a portfolio of original and remixed work. His production; "Ain't Bout Money!" was aired on Swedish National Radio's Musikguiden i P3 in May of 2011. “Aint Bout Money!” was released later in the year on The Sound Diggers label, Chunky Traxx which is based in the UK. "In Need" is another original production of his, which was released in 2011 on Bedroom Recordings 09 out of Romania.
J.P.'s remix of Swedish producer Ell-Er’s “Redhead Magic” was also released in 2011 on EchoDeluxe Recordings, based out of Brazil.
In August of 2009, J.P. started to market his music internationally, and within two months he was featured multiple times on Chicago House FM and Demon FM. Since then he has been gaining recognition, and praise from House Music enthusiasts in countries such as Britain, Germany, Ireland, France, Brazil, Italy, Croatia, Australia, Japan, South Africa, Greece, New Zealand, Switzerland, Philippines, Hungary, Canada, Indonesia, and Russia.
J.P.’s also the founder of San Diego’s Detour SD, which is a House Music event that originated in March of 2010. With more than 40 local DJ’s booked since, along with various internationally known artists, Detour continues to be J.P.’s way of giving back to his city, and the House Music community.
March of 2011 is when J.P. made his debut at the Winter Music Conference (WMC 2011) in Miami, Florida. Considered one of the most important stateside events in dance music, J.P. has achieved one of his dreams.
With the vast amount of sub-genres electronic dance music offers and how they’ve progressed, J.P. has always remained loyal to the more organic forms of house, all the while not letting himself become pigeon holed. From Bangin’ and Jackin’ to Deep and Downtempo, his passion for the music has proven to never fade. This is more than apparent in his compilations, productions and live shows.
Being one of the fastest up and coming House Music artists, and with J.P.'s overly selective ear, expect nothing less than a crafty and unique style of sound.
